Again, my thing for signage rears its head.

the bright side project.

Here is a lovely found site. The fine ladies over at The Bright Side Project have exceptional giveaways every single day. They are also quite creative in how they select their winners. The winners are not chosen at random; there is always a thoughtful question posed which requires an answer. You can also "swoop" prizes (claim for yourself) that have not been claimed after a week's time.

I have yet to win one of the giveaways (I'm guessing I'm not as eloquent as I thought I was! haha) or successfully swoop a prize (darnit!), but no worries. I'm gonna keep trying. Their giveaways are just TOO good.

The leaves are disappearing. Winter is coming. Sigh.

day 66: a successful day of shooting.

We drove up to Ellijay after church today because I really wanted to get some family shots amongst the beautiful foliage before it all disappears. I didn't make it to some heavily leaf-y area like I planned, but we did find this awesome clearing that had sweeping vistas of mountains. And it was behind a shopping center.

I got so excited because I thought, yay! Photo shoot time!

I'm really pleased with what I got. Lots of great shots of my husband and kids, as well as nature shots. Mind you, I am just a beginner at all of this and probably have a miniscule fraction of the skills that many others doing this 365 challenge, so to see what was on my camera at the end of the day today was exciting for me. I'll just have to do one of those "would-be portfolio" posts later, as there were quite a few great shots and it was difficult to choose just one for this post.

But choose I did, and it's the one I think I'm gonna use for Christmas cards this year.

I finished my doodle! I added color to it using my Stabilo markers and these tiny Carta coloring pencils that I have. This is the first time that I can remember doing a doodle that was more symmetrical and less random. Also, it's more open, like the last doodle I did. I usually fill as much space as I can but I decided not to do that here. I'm cool with how it came out.

day 65.

Many times, I hold my camera while in my car and just point it randomly somewhere and shoot. I do this since, if I am driving, I can't very well look through the viewfinder. So I literally just point and shoot, point and shoot.

The super fun thing is getting to my destination and then looking at what my results were. Some of the shots are just about useless of course (but I keep those too so I can play with them in Picnik), but sometimes I find things that are really cool. Things I never would have looked at, much less shot had I been looking for something to shoot.

This is one of those shots. I have no idea where I was...don't remember. I just remember it was in town! But I saw it when I was reviewing everything and I thought, wow...neat.

Sometimes the opportunities are just too good to pass up.

Yesterday I shared something I am planning to make for a friend of mine as part of a crafty challenge that I saw on Facebook. As I mentioned, I have three friends for whom I will be making gifts.

One of the other friends is actually a music student of mine. She's bright, energetic, funny, and quite charismatic. I decided to paint something for her. Again, I've never painted before. Ever. So, I'm laying out on paper what I want to do before I attempt to do it on a canvas.

The tune is the beginning of "You Are My Sunshine," just because I drew a sun at the top and I thought that would go well with it. I also thought of "It's gonna be a bright, sunshiny day," but then I remembered that the tune is actually "I Can See Clearly Now (The Rain is Gone)," so...yeah. Not going to do that one...

day 63.

Sometimes I like fuzzy, blurry photos.

Earlier this year (it may have even been around this time last year), there was a "crafty challenge" going around on Facebook. I decided to participate and post the note to all of my friends. The challenge was, if they responded and agreed to do the same thing for their friends, I would make something very personal for them and give it to them sometime in 2009 as a gift. Three of my friends responded. I decided to wait until Christmas and give them Christmas gifts.

One of my friends is a hairdresser named Angela. She's really cute, and really good at what she does. I'm thinking of doing a painting for her, but since I've never painted anything, I'm trying to get a clear idea of what I want to paint before I even go there (trying to paint it). But hey, it'll be handmade, personal, and a lot of thought will have gone into it, if nothing else! haha

So, here's a sketch of what I want to do for her.

I want it to be really fun and cute, like her.

remembering.

I was looking through photos I've taken over the last year and a half, and I got to thinking about some of the wonderful times I've had with my family. I am so blessed to have them, and grateful. I'm not thinking about this because it's November and there's a "gratefulness" theme going on (though that's all well and good), because I stop and reflect on the awesome things about life quite often.

Right now I'm remembering this time last year. My husband was working out of town for several months, and we had just arrived in Charlotte from Albany, New York. While driving down from Albany, the weather was so gorgeous, we admired all of the scenery, I of course slept as did the kids, and we just enjoyed being together and making memories. We actually ended up being "accidental tourists" in New York City in the middle of the night (a post that I'll share later, with pictures) and we had so much fun!

We had a lot of great times while living in Charlotte too. It wasn't until March that my husband's project there was over, and while he was glad to come home, it was also kind of sad to leave. We had developed our own little stomping grounds there. Just a few of the things I miss:

walking to Romano's Macaroni Grill for dinner
Destiny Bubble Tea (wow that was so amazing!)
taking my kids to the nearby park and lake
the bread pudding at MiMi's Cafe (I think there's one in Atlanta though)
driving across the state line to South Carolina for church on Sundays
my weekly grocery shopping trip to Bloom

Very small things, but fond memories nonetheless. I wonder what kinds of awesome memories are in store for us this year.

day 62: leaves.

What is the best thing about Autumn? Possibly, the leaves.

I think I've decided what would be best for me to do on Wednesdays since they are so hectic and I really have precious little time to do much. And that is to play around with a photo and share that.

I took this with my iPhone and played around with it in Photoshop Mobile, then did some more with it in Picnik.

Rain. Again.

I didn't crop this one. I should have.

I think I'm done with my friendly doodle for now. I may come back to it at some point. Sometimes I just run into a wall and don't want to keep going. So there it is.

a year ago today.

Well, maybe give or take a day or two, but it was around this exact time last year that I took this picture. I had just gotten my new Macbook but had not bought Niki yet. I think I was still considering saving up seriously for a DSLR and hadn't even decided (because I didn't know for sure) if I wanted a Nikon or a Canon. This was taken with my four year-old little Kodak EasyShare point and shoot camera.

I was reminded to go and look at past photos after reading this post on the Shutter Sisters blog today. I'm so glad I went back and looked at them. I don't do that very often, and it brought back so many fond memories. It also reminded me that I still have a lot of sharing with friends to do.

My kidlets have grown so much. My oldest is going to be a teenager in December, my little Fro Magnum (who's eye is being weirdly obstructed by big brother's curls) will be four at the end of the month, and Ladybug is a couple of months away from being two. Sigh.

Time moves a smidge too fast for me. I'm not complaining. I'm just saying.

my would-be portfolio: halloweenie, part 5.

We had so much fun!
